Colorado police are looking for a group of assailants who brutally assaulted a transgender woman last weekend in front of a Denver bar.

Amber Nicole, who also passes by Dom James, recounts that she was harassed and then beaten in the early morning of April 28 while she was leaving Lodo's tavern with friends.

The beating left Nicole with a broken jaw requiring emergency surgery. Nerve damage to the right side of the face has caused partial paralysis, which doctors say could be permanent.

"We are just trying to live our lives and have fun with our peers, to be with our friends, to live our lives, and people do not seem to be able to see us like that," Nicole told her local CBS affiliate. through tears.

Although there is no video surveillance of the attack, a video on a cell phone shows Nicole bloodied while passers-by seem to go by without helping.

"There are so many people who can see an incident and stop or do something about it, or report on it, but no one does it and I do not understand why," she continued. "It seems like it's because I'm different."

A GoFundMe page, describing Nicole as "a beloved interpreter and a Denver social personality with a heart of gold," was created to help pay for her medical expenses and raised approximately $ 13,000 towards a goal of $ 50,000.

"This hate crime shook Amber, his closest friends and his family," reads the page. "It should shake the whole community. We must stand for our trans sister. "
