Colts punter Rigoberto Sanchez, who performed well in Sunday’s game against the Titans, revealed this morning he has cancer.

“Like I said before, it’s still God’s plan and it will always be bigger than my plans,” Sanchez wrote on Instagram. “I am very grateful to be surrounded by doctors who helped me catch the cancerous tumor before it spread throughout my body. I’m going to have the surgery on Tuesday and I know it won’t be an easy step down the road, but I know my amazing wife is supporting me with my family, coaches and friends reaching out to me.

Sanchez has said he will take time off the Colts but did not say how long he expects to be out.

“Sadly, there are things you cannot control in life and this is one of them. No plan or preparation would have prepared me for this kind of adversity, but like I said to my wife, we can’t flinch. Keep striving to come back stronger than ever, ”Sanchez wrote. “It makes me sick to have to run out of time playing alongside my brothers for a bit, but I know they are going to hold it back.” I will watch. I love you all.”

Sanchez has played all 11 Colts games this year. Yesterday, he kicked five times for an average of 50.8 yards.
