Colts QB Carson Wentz returns to the training ground – with some really encouraging signs regarding his foot

Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Carson Wentz returned to the training ground for the first time since his recent offseason foot surgery three weeks ago – and well, the first signs were encouraging to say the least:

There are still a few hurdles to jump through, and the Colts will have to see how Wentz’s foot ultimately reacts to today’s training camp practice, but yes, it looks like the former franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles has a very realistic chance of making his Indianapolis debut in Week 1 against the Seattle Seahawks.

Quite frankly, there are real reasons to be optimistic at this time.

Now Wentz has been banned from live teamwork, but like The Athletic’s Zak Keefer mentioned, he did just about everything else on the training ground on Monday:

The Colts could use it a lot there too, as a 2nd year quarterback. Jacob Reason neither recruit Sam ehlinger really got away with starting work in his absence convincingly, with ups and downs respectively.

Instead, Wentz remains the ideal combination of the two.

He’s got the size and strength of Eason’s arms, while having the mobility and awareness of Ehlinger.

If he’s perfectly healthy and the surgically cleaned foot is ready to go, he’ll soon be behind the Colts cross.

That being said, the Colts won’t rush him either, even though he’s already ahead of his planned return schedule at the moment.

In other news, the Colts’ two All-Pro inside offensive linemen Quenton Nelson and Ryan kelly also returned to the training ground on Monday, each taking part in individual exercises:

As it stands, the Colts are starting to be healthy, just in time for the regular season.
