Despite sprained ankles, Carson Wentz is expected to start for the Colts against the Titans on Sunday. But Indianapolis has stepped up to quarterback insurance.

The Colts have announced that Brett Hundley has been elevated to the active roster of the practice squad for week three.

Hundley reportedly took on first-team quarterback representatives on Wednesday against Jacob Eason, who served as Indianapolis back-up QB for the first two weeks of the season. Hundley told reporters this week he would be ready if called. Now that he’s on the roster, Hundley could serve as Wentz’s replacement instead of Eason. Or the Colts could choose to activate three QBs for Sunday’s game.

This is the first of two standard Hundley elevations for 2021.

Eason played a little more than the final two minutes of last week’s loss to the Rams, throwing an interception at cornerback Jalen Ramsey on his second pass attempt.

Wentz was unable to train on Wednesday and Thursday but returned to the pitch on Friday with limited capacity.

The Colts also elevated the practice team’s receiver DeMichael Harris to the active roster.
