Colts vs. Browns Preseason Week 2: Winners and Losers

The second week of the pre-season saw the Colts face the Browns, the team they had been training against all week. It was a sloppy affair, with 29 penalties totaling a value of 283 yards. The Colts seemed more fit than when they were out of the first week, but far from what we expected.

Despite the difficulties with shots on goal and defeats at the end of the game, the first goal of the pre-season is to continue to refine and shape the alignment as the cuts get closer. With this in mind, here are some winners and losers from the second week of preseason.

Deon Cain

Cain was an indisputable winner in this match, making 7 receptions on 9 targets for 80 yards of the team's offense. He did a lot of things, that it was a good toe shot on a key strike or a broken tackle for big yards after a shot. . Perhaps more importantly, he was a reliable and consistent target and proved his membership at this level. Cain actually dropped a disputed catch, but his production ultimately far exceeded this simple mistake. With Reece Fountain for the season, Cain is a virtual lock to make the list, and his game indicates that it could be a valuable part of the list as soon as possible.

Jacoby Brissett

Brissett had a week of training from top to bottom, and a similar performance similar in the first week of the pre-season. That day, however, he was solid. He played well in the pocket and always got the ball quickly, which he did not always do. In addition, his accuracy was much better than it was in the low season. The final result was a day where he earned 8 out of 10 points for 100 passing yards and an 11-yard run.

Kemoko Turay

Turay had a solid day off the edge, getting both a bag and a tackle for a defeat in his field time. He has the speed and the ability to affect the quarterback and cause real problems to linemen offensive, as evidenced by his limited time in action in this game. The Colts need a big step forward for Turay in 2019 if they aspire to become champions, and this is the kind of game they will need to make that jump. From the beginning of the off-season, signs seemed to indicate that Turay was ready to take a big step forward, but this progression was hampered by a shoulder injury that limited his practice time. Hope we can expect to see more.

Eric Ebron

He was away a long time, but his impact was more than enough to show that you should not expect a drop in value or a playing ability for Eric Ebron in 2019. He came back to make an excellent game on the ball. on a throw that was behind him for a big win, and shortly after a simple cover to make an excellent catch in the end zone for a touchdown. He looked just as punchy and deadly in attack as last season, and it was not even with Andrew Luck in the middle.

Hale Hentges

While we are talking about tight points, Hale Hentges seemed to play well for the second week in a row, becoming a valuable passer and blocker. He played several times late in the game and was clearly one of Chad Kelly's most reliable targets later in the game. Hentges has reached its 4 targets and his strong and balanced game will be a difficult call for the coaching staff during cups.

Honorable Mentions

Marvell Tell was called (in my opinion, wrongly) for crossing interference on the sideline but was in lockdown phase with the receiver.
Phillip Walker greatly improved his presence in the pocket and made beautiful shots
Muhammad Al-Quadin had a good shot QB and almost lost his bag to force a bad shot and end an order
Chad Kelly has continued his momentum and looks like a guy who could make a quality backup.

losers

Marcus Johnson

In the race for the receiver, Johnson's performance was certainly not good for him. It was targeted 6 times and had 2 really stinging drops. He was right on the bubble in terms of performance, but it was forgotten. Beyond the falls, Johnson did not do much after the rally and could not play an important role on the field. He will need two good weeks if he hopes to be part of the team.

Jalen Collins

Although the Colts have been in high demand this season, the half-back group has been disappointing, but Jalen Collins has had a disappointing season. It does not stop showing up on the wrong side of the highlights and this game is no exception. He abandoned the touchdown and allowed the separation much too easily in the red zone. Although he received rave reviews at the beginning of the camp from most of the Colts media, he regularly seemed to get rid of his goal.

Zach Pascal

Chris Ballard praised Pascal before the camp and his versatility, willingness and ability to do everything he was asked. These traits are valuable, but Ashton Dulin, not Pascal, was back. Pascal also did not make a significant contribution to the offense, having been targeted twice and knocking down a ball that would probably have meant 6 points if he had hung it. For a guy who needs great performance from now on to qualify for the 53 final, this performance was not enough.

Honorable Mentions

Rock Ya-Sin had a completely unnecessary pass interference and allowed Brown to continue driving.
George Odum missed a great opportunity for the special teams to hit hard by overtaking the game.
E.J. Speed continues to struggle to choose good angles to the ball and sometimes withdraws from the game.
