The Columbus Blue Jackets went all-in at the trade deadline, multiplying trade and keeping two players out of the contract before Artemi Panarin and goalkeeper Sergei Bobrovskydespite their intentions to sign elsewhere this summer. It was a huge gamble for Columbus and until Friday night we were still not sure it would be successful.
With a shootout victory against the New York Rangers, the Columbus Blue Jackets are stuck in the playoffs. But do you see how close they were to running away?
Video
Leading 2-1 at the last minute of regulation, the Blue Jackets almost ruined everything when the Rangers attacked Pavel Buchnevich "Beat" Bobrovsky. Really, the Buchnevich just passed the puck into the slot and Bob's cushion is deflected into the goal. From where the posture on the picture above.
Meanwhile, Buchnevich was delighted.

And because I know you want to see him, this is what Lumbus head coach John Tortorella looked like just after the ring.
This single goal had a huge impact on Jackets' chances of qualifying for the playoffs.

Alas, the Jackets survived overtime and won the shootout with a goal from Artemi Panarin.

This second point of the ranking ultimately earned the Jackets X next to their name in the rankings.
Bob seemed really relieved about it.

Meanwhile, the Montreal Canadiens were eventually eliminated.
We will still need more time to know who the Caps will play in the first round. For the last games of the season, Columbus plays in Ottawa, Carolina in Philadelphia, Washington in the Islanders and Pittsburgh in New York.
