Comcast (NASDAQ: CMCSA) pushes its Peacock video streaming service into the wrestling ring. The big broadcaster signed a multi-year contract with World Wrestling Entertainment (NYSE: WWE) for the latter to bring its brand of “sports entertainment” to Peacock, the two companies said in a joint statement on Monday.
Neither company provided the terms or financial details of the deal, nor specifically how many years it would be in effect. They also haven’t released estimates on the impact it might have on their finances.
Under the terms of the deal, Peacock will be the exclusive U.S. video streaming partner for the wrestling company’s WWE Network, itself a video streaming service. This content must be made available to subscribers of Peacock Premium, the paid tier of the streamer.
Comcast and WWE were quick to point out that with prices starting at $ 4.99 per month, Peacock Premium is 50% cheaper than a WWE Network membership. It also allows, of course, access to a range of existing value-added Peacock content, such as return episodes of Office. WWE material, which includes more than 17,000 hours of matchmaking and related wrestling videos, will begin to be available on Peacock on March 18.
As with WWE Network, Peacock Premium subscribers will also have access to the wrestling company’s frequent live events, such as the famous once-a-year. WrestleMania. This year’s version of extravagance is slated for March 28.
