Another San Diego Comic-Con comes and goes. Corn… did you even notice?
SDCC was instead the virtual “Comic-Con @ Home” for the second year in a row, due to the ongoing global pandemic of course. We were quite critical on how it all went last year, but gave the scam team a lot of credit considering how quickly the annual entertainment convention necessary to adapt. But after a whole year and several other more appealing virtual drawbacks—New York comic, DC Fandome, and even a Walt Disney investors call-SDCC was once again a bust.
We spoke to the organizers before the show and didn’t get the impression that they were planning this much more than last year. We thought (and hoped) that the association would at least take advantage of YouTube’s “premiere” option to make things more lively. He does not have. SDCC Communications and Strategy Officer David Glanzer told us that the con did not have the resources doing real live panels but, again, that meant everything was pre-recorded well in advance … which also meant that it was out of the question to have a breaking news aspect. Even today, you might see news drop that absolutely would have been part of an in-person scam – news. Exorcist trilogy, a live action Pokemon show on Netflix, if it had existed.
Aside from the (and often late) drop in signs, fans seemed broadly disengaged from the weekend’s event.
