Star Trek: Lower Bridges has been one of our surprise favorites last year, and it’s back and more beautiful than ever for the second round. And that means no more jokes, no more deliciously silly references to Trekhas passed, and more serious Starfleet vibrations than you can shake an accidentally set phaser to decay.

Take a jump on Star TrekSan Diego Comic-Con @ Home 2021 panel focused on animation today alongside Star Trek: Prodigy, the fast-arriving new trailer for the season sets the stage for what will follow in the wake of last season’s change of status quo. After Captain Riker and the USS Titan came to rescue the Cerritos From a bad meeting with the Pakleds at the end of the first season, Boimler found himself spotted by Riker for a promotion, which would mean a move aboard the Titan. Choosing not to tell anyone, the ensign-turned-lieutenant left his friends behind apparently for good – and many to the fury of Mariner, who had spent the entire episode learning how much she enjoyed being on board the Cerritos and among his friends. “We left a lot of bills to pay with the characters and with what was going on in the world. You know, we continue. We said this earlier, but there is a very good mix of serious Trek and silly Trek“, Mike McMahan, Creator of/ Executive producer on Lower decks, said of Season 2 during the show’s co-appearance alongside Star Trek: Prodigy. “Because if you’re on a Starfleet ship, you don’t know if you’re going to meet the Jem’Hadar or some guy who traps you in a game, you know what I mean? You will see familiar faces, you will see a lot of new things. the Cerritos goes through a real rigamarole. I’m just excited for August.

It looks like we won’t have to wait too long to see Mariner, Tendi and Rutherford (who still suffers from the amnesia he suffered from in the prime of season one thanks to his skull implant being pulled out. ) find Boimler at least. And that Boimler will learn very quickly how stressful it is to be on a “hero” ship like the Titan, especially under the command of someone like Will Riker, perhaps. But there is so much more going on here: the arrival of the Cerritos‘new Tamaritan security chief, struggles with the Cardassians, Ferengi and perhaps even the Borgs, and, perhaps most delightfully, Boimler mind-blowing a conversation with an authorized Tom Paris Star Trek: Voyager plaque, voiced by none other than Robert Duncan McNeill himself. But a big threat of return? The Pakleds of the end of season 2, which will become related to Lower decks response to a big bad, a suitably silly foe but still somewhat threatening to our heroes.

“The Pakleds, we kind of treated it a bit like the Klingons were in CGU or maybe the Romulans were in TNG, you know, kind of a big evil force growing up, that’s where you have to deal with it, ”McMahan revealed. But remember, the Cerritos is not necessarily in charge of major missions. So every once in a while, because they met the Pakleds first, they get involved in certain things. But you will see the Titan kind of having to deal with more pakled stuff.

Star Trek: Lower Bridges returns for its second season in a few weeks, arriving on Paramount + starting August 12.
