Fans of superhero comics and movies flocked to New York’s Javits Center on Thursday as Comic-Con returned in person to the Big Apple after going virtual last year due to the coronavirus.
Participants said they were happy to see the four-day event return after a difficult and exciting year and a half of fighting the pandemic.

“It’s good to find the Con,” Brooklyn resident Hung Tran told WABC-TV in New York. “I’ve seen a lot, I’ve been through a lot, and it’s good to have this to detox and enjoy.”

Spectators over the age of 12 received green wristbands after showing proof of vaccination, the station reported.
Comic-Con also had a mask requirement – which wasn’t difficult for many fans who chose to arrive dressed like their favorite comic book characters, masks and all, WCBS-TV from New York City reported.

“It’s a little weird with the masks, but I think we’re going to get used to it for the next few days and make the most of it,” a fan told the station.
Celebrities expected on the show, which runs through Sunday, include “Star Trek” actor William Shatner, “Stranger Things” actor David Harbor and “Star Wars” actor Hayden Christensen, according to the report.

ReedPop, the company that produces the convention, said it plans to limit capacity to about 140,000 total attendees out of the roughly 250,000 in previous years, WABC reported.
Comic-Con has generated more than $ 100 million in economic activity in New York City in previous years, CNBC reported in April.
