On a recent episode of Mac Power Users, Stephen Hackett and David Sparks were looking at the iPad as a laptop replacement. I had the impression that it was one of the most refreshing discussions on the iPad and iOS that I had heard for quite some time. They have looked at things on the iPad that give them joy and things that do not. The M series was reminiscent of the iOS story on iPad, and the stagnation of the situation. For me, the iPad as a device has become stagnant at the time of the debut of the iPhone 6 Plus. The reality is that the iPhone has improved the task management of the iPad much faster than the iPad compared to a laptop powered by macOS. Since then, iOS on iPad has not changed drastically outside of multitasking. If you want to listen to a good discussion about the positive and negative aspects of the lifestyle of the iPad, I would like to listen to this episode. Reflecting on the future of the iPad, I realized that iOS 13 on iPad would be the most important version to date.
Put the pro on iOS
For Apple with iOS 13 on iPad, the challenge is to keep it simple, but also to improve the way it handles complex tasks that have generally been better served by macOS. If I were product manager in the iPad group, I would constantly argue that the iPad must be able to do it. all a Mac can do. Yes, these are different devices, but users should be able to choose one or the other and get the same results. It's really time for the iPad range to get the same Pro upgrade with the software that the hardware has received in recent years. Tasks such as file management need to become easier. Mobile Safari must be removed and a desktop browser must be added. I argue that the iPad must be able to support the trackpad / pointer.
The intersection iOS 13
Apple has completed the iPad lineup where it looks like a range of laptops. There are options for iPad from $ 329 up to $ 1,000 for an iPad Pro Max (without accessories). As Apple has built iPad faster and faster, it is limited by the software it uses. I think that iOS 13 is a hub for the iPad. If WWDC 2019 comes and goes with incremental iOS updates on iPad, I will start wondering if someone sleeps behind the wheel of the product team. The iPad is not a new device concept. If Apple thinks it's the future of computing, the software must match the current hardware.

I know that some of you will want the Mac to become the Mac and that the iPad becomes the iPad, and I agree with that to a certain extent. However, I do not think that the sale of tablets and traditional laptops will work forever. Companies build devices that achieve both goals. Although I do not think the hybrid device category is great right now, anyone will understand it. Just as the iPhone was combining our iPods and cell phones into one device (and selling cannibalized iPods), the iPad Pro should one day be able to cannibalize a MacBook Air and a 9.7-inch iPad. If Apple does not understand how to keep iOS 13 accessible to novice users while developing the possibilities of the iPad (to the detriment of the Mac), this leaves an opportunity open to other companies.
