The Huawei P30 Pro promises to rewrite the rules of photography. It has an arsenal of four rear cameras, but as impressive as it may sound on paper, how do they work in real life?

It is impossible to capture the essence of a camera in a single number. That's why we took a lot of photos with the Huawei P30 Pro and we compare them to some of the best smartphone cameras in the world: the Galaxy S10 Plus and the Google Pixel 3.

And since most smartphones work pretty well during the day, we focused on the one area where smartphones are always struggling: nighttime photos.

For this test, we used Huawei's Night Mode, which captures multiple photos and groups them together for a superior night shot. This entire process takes about a few seconds and is not as fast as the Night Sight mode on Google Pixel. We felt a little impatient to wait for the treatment to finish, but let's see if the results were worth it. For the Galaxy S10 Plus, all settings have been set to auto.

The view of Montmartre

In this first shot, we headed for Montmartre, the artistic district where Picasso and his ilk lived and gathered. The place offered us a beautiful panoramic view of the Parisian night, a view that we really hoped to have a good photo. But it was very dark and the scene was a big challenge for a smartphone camera.

In our opinion, the Huawei P30 Pro has done the best here. He captured the brightest photo, with the most details. Pixel's night vision did well, but not quite as well, and the Galaxy was nowhere as good as the other two.

A comfortable coffee

The small streets of Montmartre are full of cafes that all seem so comfortable during a cool March night. With their colorful facades, we were curious to know which phones would take the best picture of these beautiful places. In our opinion, the Huawei P30 Pro did a very good job, but in this case, the Pixel 3 image is a bit better with brighter colors and this is the one we would like to share the most. The galaxy has a strange faded look and is not as good.

Some phones see better at night

The famous Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Montmartre, a temple located at the top of the hill of Montmartre, is not only a place reserved for lovers of God, it is also a gathering place for children. The cast iron walls are decorated with locks of newlyweds. In the dark, it was difficult to see the signs. So we turned to phones to help us capture that.

The Huawei P30 Pro and the Pixel 3 stood out with great photos, it's really hard to choose the best, while the Galaxy S10 Plus did not really do a good job.

They serve snails in these places!

The snail is the name of a popular snail dish in France, but although we have not yet had the chance to try them, we have captured this photo of 39, a restaurant that serves them.

Huawei's night mode captured the most memorable photo here. The picture is clearly overpopulated, but also has the best exposure and we like it the most. The pixel is not far behind, while the Galaxy is not yet as good as the other two.

So … does the Huawei P30 Pro rewrite the rules of photography? It's hard to say, but we can clearly see that his night mode, despite the inconvenience of having to stand for several seconds to capture an image, is worth it. It can capture an impressive amount of light and capture memorable images that you often can not get on other phones.

The night standby mode on the Google Pixel also works well, but often, the P30 Pro was able to capture more light and capture a better photo.

Finally, the Galaxy is not as good at night.
