Fortbytes are "files" for which players must succeed in new challenges to unlock. Each file unlocks more of a larger image that reveals something important about Season 9.
Fortbytes are essentially a new challenge system for Fortnite. While Battle Pass challenges are still in place, Fortbytes adds even more activity to keep players engaged.
Each completed Fortbyte challenge will unlock a small piece of a larger image file / loading screen. The more you discover and unlock, the closer you get to the secrets behind the Fortbytes.
What are the Fortbytes?
There are 100 Fortbyte challenges in total for season 9. However, not all are able to finish from the beginning. Many Fortbytes have remained inaccessible until Epic Games unlocks the challenges.
Most of Fortbyte's challenges are much longer than typical Battle Pass challenges. Some ask players to earn more than 100,000 XP while others ask players to complete Battle Pass levels.
You can find the Fortbyte challenges in the game as the first icon in the 'Challenges' tab. Fortbytes can only be completed / found by Battle Pass owners.
As mentioned earlier, only some of the challenges are currently available. Here is the official Epic Fortbytes information from the release notes of version 9.00.
Fortbytes
- Fortbytes is a collection of 100 collectible computer chips available for Battle Pass owners. When you collect Fortbytes, you decipher a mysterious image. Collect them all to unlock rewards and discover the secrets of Season 9.
- On the first day of season 9, 18 Fortbytes are available. At least 1 new Fortbyte will be unlocked each day. Check out the Challenges tab for detailed information on currently available Fortbytes and when others are unlocking.
- Fortbytes can not be collected after season 9 ends.

Each Fortbyte is designated by its number in the Fortbyte menu. There are currently 19 challenges to complete.

Fortbyte 10 – Awarded for winning 60,000 XP
Fortbyte 13 – Found at a hidden spot in the # 2 loading screen

Fortbyte 35 – Awarded for winning 225,000 XP
