Games Done Quick events are at the forefront of speedrun culture and also raise incredible sums. Last week we had the Done Quick 2021 Summer Games, which was again held virtually with the money raised for Médecins Sans Frontières / Doctors Without Borders.
A full week of 24-hour stream naturally involved a lot of iconic games, including all kinds of Nintendo classics. There was a Super Metroid race, as always, and the full list of races is archived on the Games Done Quick YouTube channel.
One session we rather enjoyed was a rather cute and unlikely speedrun from Nintendogs, although the adorable virtual puppy had brief difficulties.
As always, the key legacy of these events is their exceptional fundraising, and the closing total was set at $ 2,904,585.35, from over 40,000 donations. This is the highest amount the organization has raised from its online events alone in the past year – an incredible achievement.
Don’t forget to check out the race archives and share your favorite moments in the comments!
