Conan O’Brien stirred up the whole crowd at the 73rd Annual Emmy Awards, a little ruckus that made TV Academy president Frank Scherma laugh.

The former late-night host led the charge on Sunday of getting the crowd to give a standing ovation to Scherma while giving the president an emphatic salute.

Any keen observer of awards knows that the obligatory speeches of various presidents, accountants, etc. are some of the less interesting moments, so O’Brien’s (seemingly sarcastic) salute and exaggerated applause for Scherma added some levity and hilarity to a potentially less than exciting moment.
