The FBI has arrested a Connecticut man for allegedly assaulting a Washington, DC police officer who was seen in viral videos stuck between doors during the riot on Capitol Hill, authorities said Wednesday.
Patrick Edward McCaughey, 23, was taken into custody around 7 p.m. Tuesday in White Plains, New York, on charges of assaulting a police officer, civil unrest and illegal entry, officials said.
During McCaughey’s initial court appearance on Wednesday, a judge ordered his detention without bail, citing the suspect’s danger to the community.
“What we see in this video of this accused is extremely disturbing,” said US Justice of the Peace Andrew Krause.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Benjamin Gianforti said the footage clearly established a link between McCaughey and the disturbing attack on Officer Daniel Hodges.
“This video is crystal clear, you can clearly see the face of the accused and you can see the face of Officer Hodges as he screams in pain,” Gianforti said.
The suspect has been unemployed since late 2019 and lives with his parents, according to McCaughey’s defense attorney, who pleaded for $ 150,000, which was denied.
The Justice Department’s criminal complaint says that McCaughey repeatedly told the officer to “come home” and “come on man you’re gonna be run over, come home” when he allegedly used a police against the officer during the storming of January 6. US Capitol Building.
Despite the excruciating pain Constable Daniel Hodges felt during the attack, he later told reporters he was happy to do his duty.
“If it wasn’t my job, I would have done it for free,” he said. “It was absolutely my pleasure to crush a white nationalist insurgency, and we will do it as many times as we need to.”
The prosecution document states that McCaughey pinned Hodges ‘body between the riot shield and the lower door to the west terrace as “a separate rioter begins to violently tear off Constable Hodges’ gas mask, exposing the Agent Hodges’ bloody mouth. “
McCaughey was reportedly seen leaving the Capitol on security cameras after hitting other officers with the shield, the document says.
Messages left by NBC News for McCaughey and his family, at public phone numbers based in Ridgefield, Connecticut, were not immediately returned early Wednesday evening.

“The vicious attack on Officer Hodges was heinous and fundamentally anti-American,” Acting United States Attorney Michael R. Sherwin said in a statement.
