UFC stars were involved in a personal Twitter exchange, which forced UFC President Dana White to intervene. Mr. White intervened after McGregor had published an offensive comment which, though subsequently deleted, forced the UFC star to apologize. Following McGregor's tweet, White called on both men to end their personal attacks while calling the comments "unacceptable".

In his statement, Mr. White said, "I am aware of the recent social media exchange between Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor.

"The current situation has degenerated to an unacceptable level.

"As such, we are taking the necessary steps to join both sides of the athletes and this situation is handled by all parties internally."

The two fighters exchanged words as fans of the sport wait for a possible clash between the two players.
