Conor McGregor insisted he was “happy” with his first pitch in the Chicago Cubs-Minnesota Twins baseball game despite the embarrassing nature of the pitch.
The former UFC two-weight world champion, who broke his leg in his last fight with Dustin Poirier, lobed the ball away from the receiver before laughing at the incident.
He has received criticism on social media, with UFC rival Justin Gaethje saying, “I can’t help but laugh at this. All the MMA fighters who portrayed us doing this look terrible, but it takes the cake. “
But McGregor refused to accept that it was a bad pitch and stuck to his guns as he was happy with the outcome.
He said: “The most devastating first throw ever! The venom was there, the power was there, it’s a bit wrong but I’m on one leg.
“You can see me basing myself entirely on the left leg that was recently injured. I’m happy, I’ll take it into account.
“I don’t think there was a lot of power difference between mine and them over there (the players), it was just that the accuracy was a bit low.
“But I’m happy with it. It was either the friendly lob or the point of getting it off the ground. And if it was in the right direction, we would have had a problem, I would say.
UFC boss Dana White recently revealed that McGregor could fight again this year even though he didn’t break his leg until July.
The Irishman has won only one fight in the Octagon since 2016 following the loss to Khabib Nurmagomedov and two losses to Poirier.
