Dustin Poirier and Conor McGregor faced off one last time before heading to the Octagon on Saturday.
At Friday’s UFC 264 weigh-in ceremony, UFC President Dana White was not going to let Poirier and McGregor get close to each other, and after an intense showdown, the two men gave their final thoughts on the game.
McGregor got the ball rolling and he was certainly more vicious with his words.
“In 4pm this man is going to learn that when you disrespect a person’s kindness and see it as a weakness, you have to pay,” McGregor told Joe Rogan inside the T- Mobile Arena Friday. “Tomorrow night I’m going to make this man pay with his life – and I really mean it.” You died in that octagon tomorrow night.
Poirier, who received a chorus of boos in Las Vegas, accepted McGregor’s comments before giving his side of things within 24 hours of the biggest fight of his career.
“It doesn’t mean nothing. It’s noise,” Poirier said in reaction to McGregor’s promo. “Tomorrow night, tune in. I want to thank you all for the cheers and the hoots. “
The former interim lightweight champion then shouted out his personal guest for the fight week, Peyton Murphy, 21, who has been battling osteosarcoma, a rare but devastating form of bone cancer for four years.
Poirier, ranked No.1 in the MMA Fighting World Rankings, will look to end the trilogy with two straight wins after stopping McGregor in the second round of their UFC 257 main event bout in January.
McGregor will look to avoid the first consecutive losing streak of his professional MMA career and end the rivalry in his own way. The world ranking No.11 lightweight in MMA Fighting stopped Poirier in the first round when he competed in UFC 178 in September 2014.
