WASHINGTON – Another medicine against high blood pressure is recalled because it could contain a carcinogenic substance.
Macleods Pharmaceuticals Limited has issued a voluntary recall of 100 mg / 25 combination tablets of potassium and hydrochlorothiazide from Losartan.
A report from the US Food and Drug Administration states that the drug contains levels above the acceptable limit of a compound that has been classified as probable carcinogen to humans.
According to the FDA, N-nitrosodiethylamine (NDEA) is "a naturally occurring substance in certain foods, drinking water, air pollution and industrial processes".
Although the report adds that the company has not yet received any reports of adverse events related to the drug, officials recommend that patients stop taking this medication immediately.
