Cook County lawyer Kim Foxx withdrew from the Chicago authorities' investigation into Jussie Smollett's alleged attack.
"As a precaution, the decision to recuse itself was made to deal with possible issues of impartiality based on familiarity with potential witnesses in the case," said Foxx spokesperson, Tandra Simonton.
When asked who was familiar with Foxx, Simonton replied that Foxx would have no other comments.
The first deputy prosecutor, Joseph Magats, will be the acting prosecutor, said Simonton in a statement emailed to NBC Chicago on Tuesday.
