The Oregon Health Authority on Thursday reported 849 new confirmed or suspected coronavirus cases and 11 additional deaths, with cases and hospitalizations continuing a slow downward trend.
Thursday marked the fifth day in a row with fewer than 850 cases. The positive trajectory contrasts sharply with state modeling from two weeks ago that suggested cases could increase this month.
Oregon is expected to release new modeling on Friday, when Governor Kate Brown holds a press conference to discuss the state’s latest responses to the pandemic.

New deaths: Oregon’s 1,833rd coronavirus-related death is a 78-year-old woman from Clackamas County who tested positive on January 6 and died on January 14 at her home.
The 1,834th death is a 94-year-old Jackson County woman who died Dec. 28 at her home. COVID-19 was listed on his death certificate as a major cause or contributing factor to his death.
Oregon’s 1,835th death is a 90-year-old Jackson County man who died Jan. 3 at his residence. COVID-19 was listed on his death certificate as a major cause or contributing factor to his death.
Oregon’s 1,836th death is a 79-year-old Jackson County woman who tested positive on December 26 and died on January 17 at her home.
Oregon’s 1837th death is a 77-year-old Jackson County man who tested positive on December 28 and died on December 31 at his residence.
Oregon’s 1838th death is a 100-year-old Jackson County woman who tested positive on December 22 and died on January 10 at her home.
Oregon’s 1,839th death is a 90-year-old Lane County woman who tested positive on December 21 and died on January 17 at PeaceHealth Sacred Heart Medical Center – Riverbend.
Oregon’s 1840th death is a 69-year-old Lane County man who tested positive on Dec.9 and died Jan. 17 at McKenzie Willamette Medical Center.
The 1841st Oregon death is a 65-year-old Lane County man who tested positive on Dec.6 and died Jan.20 at Oregon Health & Science University.
Oregon’s 1842nd death is a 52-year-old Washington County woman who tested positive on Jan.3 and died Jan.6 at Hillsboro Medical Center.
Oregon’s 1843rd death is a 66-year-old Yamhill County man who tested positive on January 6 and died on January 17 at his home.
Each person had underlying health issues or state officials were working to determine if the person had any underlying medical conditions.
Additionally, the deaths of three inmates in Oregon Corrections Department prisons were announced Thursday and were not reflected in the state’s tally:
A man aged 70 to 80 who was staying at the Two Rivers Correctional Center in Umatilla County who tested positive for COVID-19 and died at a local hospital on January 20.
A man aged 70 to 80 who was staying at the Two Rivers Correctional Center in Umatilla County who tested positive for COVID-19 and died at a local hospital on January 21.
A man aged 55 to 65 who was housed at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Marion County, who tested positive for COVID-19 and died at a local hospital on January 21.
The prevalence of infections: On Thursday, the state reported 952 new positive tests out of 20,119 tests performed, a positivity rate of 4.7%.
Who was infected: New confirmed and suspected infections increased in the following age groups: 0-9 years (43); 10-19 (127); 20-29 (168); 30-39 (130); 40-49 (116); 50-59 (110); 60-69 (71); 70 to 79 (34); 80 years and over (32).
Who is in the hospital: The state reported that 329 Oregonians with confirmed coronavirus infections were currently in hospital on Thursday, seven fewer than Wednesday. Of those, 87 coronavirus patients were in intensive care units, three fewer than Wednesday.
Vaccines administered: Oregon administered 253,711 out of 479,325 doses received, or just under 53% of its supply.
Since he started: Oregon has reported 135,973 confirmed or suspected infections and 1,843 deaths, among the lowest totals in the country. To date, the state has reported 3,023,332 lab reports from testing.
