Coronavirus measures in every region – NBC Chicago

Several health regions in Illinois are seeing a drop in key coronavirus metrics as the state remains under Level 3 mitigations, but there is still a lot of work to do in other parts of the state.

In Region 6, the positivity rate in the past seven days has fallen below the 12% threshold, meaning the region is close to a reduction in restrictions, possibly as early as Monday.

For a region to see its restrictions reduced, three statistical thresholds must be reached. First, an area must have a seven-day positivity rate of less than 12% for three consecutive days. Second, the availability of intensive care beds and medical / surgical beds must be greater than 20% for three consecutive days. Finally, a region should see a decrease in overall hospitalizations for seven days over a 10-day period, and if the region meets all of these requirements, it may revert to a lower level of coronavirus restrictions.

Here is where things stand in each region. Positivity rates are calculated with a three-day lag, meaning that the data was last available on Wednesday, while all hospitalization data is updated daily.

Region 1 (Northwestern Illinois):

The number of hospitalizations in the region continues to improve, declining for nine of the past 10 days. The availability of intensive care beds and medical / surgical beds continues to exceed the 20% threshold, but barely at 23.3% and 24.4%, respectively.

The region’s positivity rate, after declining, stabilized, standing at 15.1% on Thursday.

Region 2 (West Central Illinois):

As the region’s positivity rate continued to decline, falling to 13.5% on Thursday, the availability of intensive care beds continues to be a concern, dropping below the 20% threshold on Friday. Hospitalizations are starting to decrease slightly, but remain high.

Region 3 (western Illinois):

For two consecutive days, this region, which includes Springfield, has been below the 12% threshold in terms of positivity rate, but the region still does not see a rebound in ICU bed availability, having been below 20% threshold for seven consecutive days. .

The good news is that hospitalizations are finally starting to decline and the availability of medical and surgical beds is starting to increase after dropping near the threshold earlier in the week.

Region 4 (southwest Illinois):

This region is one of the few to see an increase in positivity rates, as that number has risen to 14.2% in recent days. The availability of hospital beds continues to decline, while the availability of ICU beds has also fallen below the 20% threshold.

Region 5 (southern Illinois):

The positivity rate in this region is increasingly approaching the 12% threshold, currently at 12.3%. The availability of hospital beds increased on Saturday, as did the availability of intensive care beds, but there is still a way to go in terms of overall hospitalizations before mitigation measures can be reversed as the region has experienced increases in nine of the last 10. days.

Region 6 (East Central Illinois):

Thursday was a big day for the region, as it fell below a 12% positivity rate. The availability of intensive care beds in the region has largely stabilized and the availability of hospital beds has also started to increase. If the region’s positivity rate stays below 12% for two more days, and if the region sees one more day of decrease in hospitalizations, the level 3 mitigations could be reversed in the coming days.

Region 7 (Will, Kankakee counties):

There is good news in that region, as hospitalizations declined for three consecutive days after peaking on Monday. The availability of intensive care beds and medical / surgical beds has returned above 20% in the past three days, but the numbers are still extremely close to the threshold, meaning any drop could reset the clock on this metric.

Positivity rates are slowly declining in the region, currently standing at 17% on Saturday.

Region 8 (DuPage, Kane Counties):

The region’s positivity rate dropped to 13.2%, approaching the threshold required for a rollback of mitigations. The availability of intensive care beds and medical / surgical beds has also exceeded the 20% threshold in the past two days, and hospitalizations have fallen for five consecutive days.

Region 9 (McHenry, Lake Counties):

The region’s positivity rate has continued to decline steadily in recent days, falling to 12.3% on Wednesday. Hospitalizations are declining, falling each of the past eight days, and bed availability in the region has remained just above 20% for the past week, although that metric is dangerously close to dropping below the threshold.

Region 10 (Suburban Cook County):

The region is seeing positivity rates plummet, dropping to 12.7% on Wednesday, and there has been a slow increase in both the availability of intensive care unit beds and the availability of medical beds, both slightly exceeding the 20% threshold. Hospitalizations, which had risen for seven straight days before Wednesday, have declined in two of the past three days, suggesting the region may slowly take a turn in this category as well.

Region 11 (Chicago):

Chicago’s positivity rate is exactly 12% as of Wednesday, with availability of hospital beds and intensive care beds increasing in the past three days. Hospitalizations have also declined over the past two days, meaning the region could likely see a drop in Level 3 mitigations by the end of next week if numbers continue to move well in those three areas.
