Coronavirus update: 2 more deaths, 213 new cases in Onondaga County

Syracuse, New York – Onondaga County officials today reported 213 new cases of coronavirus since Wednesday, bringing the total number to 9,667 cases since March.

Two county residents have died from Covid-19 since Wednesday, county officials reported. A total of 231 county residents have died from the virus.

There are now 2,448 active cases of Covid-19 (patients who have not recovered), far more than at any time during the first wave of the virus last spring. Active cases peaked at 941 in June before declining over the summer.

County officials estimate that 5% to 8% of active cases will end up in hospital.

Hospital admissions for Covid-19 continued to climb today, reaching 119, another record high. Some 21 patients are in intensive care.

Of the thousands of county residents tested for the coronavirus for the coronavirus over the past week, 3.4% have tested positive. The positivity rate is highest in Orange County County, where it averaged 4.95% over the past seven days; and in the yellow zone, where it averaged 4.23%.

Onondaga County confirmed a record 270 new daily cases on Wednesday.
