Columbia University has banned 70 business students from campus after a group trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands during the COVID-19 pandemic, CNN reports.
Columbia University spokesperson Christopher Cashman said the trip violated the school’s policy limiting organized group travel.
MBA students will virtually attend classes for the rest of November and will not be allowed on the New York campus until December 1.
“This is all done to protect the overall health of our community and luckily to this day our positive case rate remains low,” Cashman told CBS.
The date of the trip was not immediately clear, but it was a recreational trip organized by students, according to the university.
“An important part of Columbia’s public health protocols is that there are consequences for community members who violate the University Health Pact,” Columbia spokeswoman Caroline Adelman said in a statement.
