Cory Sandhagen quickly knocks Frankie Edgar out

Cory Sandhagen added another violent finish to his UFC Fight Night 184 trailer against perhaps his biggest opponent to date.

Taking on Frankie Edgar in the main co-event bout, Sandhagen (14-2 MMA, 7-1 UFC) landed a flying knee that stiffened and planted the face of the former Lighthouse lightweight champion. ‘UFC just 28 seconds from the first round.

The bantamweight bout took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas. It aired on ESPN +.

Edgar (24-9-1 MMA, 18-9-1 UFC) came out aggressive, progressing straight to Sandhagen. After a few brief exchanges, Sandhagen jumped in the air and connected with a vicious hopping knee. Edgar’s consciousness left him on impact and he collapsed onto the canvas.

The arrival was the second fastest flying knee in UFC history behind Jorge Masvidal’s five-second knockout of Ben Askren at UFC 239 in July 2019.

With the win, Sandhagen extends a win into a winning streak. After an 88-second submission loss to Aljamain Sterling in June 2020, Sandhagen finished Marlon Moraes with strikes in October.

A former UFC lightweight champion and UFC featherweight title challenger, Edgar suffered his first bantamweight loss in his loss to Sandhagen. In his last six fights, Edgar has gone 2-4 with two losses inside the distance.
