Costco detaches Amazon as Internet retail leader, report says

Forget Walmart and Target, Costco is Amazon's latest and biggest rival, as the wholesale retailer has just dethroned the eCommerce giant for customer satisfaction, according to a new report.

According to the report on retail trade and consumer deliveries according to the US Customer Satisfaction Index (ACSI), Costco is the new leader in the Internet retail realm, with a score of 83% on the US ACSI scale, while Amazon retreats from 4 to 82%.

Amazon was in first place since 2010.

Each year, ACSI examines customer satisfaction across all six retail categories, including department stores and discount stores, health and personal care stores, specialty stores, supermarkets, retail stores and retail stores. line and service stations, as well as transportation services.

And, according to the report, overall customer satisfaction is down "in all areas".

In addition, while most customers still prefer online shopping to other types of retail, even e-commerce is showing signs of tension, with a drop of 2.4% in the year last.

"Customer satisfaction is down in all categories of the retail sector," said David Van Amburg, general manager of ACSI, in a press release.

"Retail Internet over physical trade, department stores versus specialty stores, everything is down. Given the importance of retail trade for overall consumer spending, this decline is a big problem. "

Other online outlets such as eBay, Overstock and Newegg have all lost a percentage point or more this year.

However, with Costco, other retailers are growing in the category of online retailers, according to customers. Etsy, Kohl's, Nordstrom and Nike have all entered the list this year to 81%. While Target, Macy's, Wayfair, Apple and HP Store reach the industry average of 80%.

Walmart and Sears, however, anchored the bottom of the category at 74 and 73 percent, respectively.
