Costco Extends Special Shopping Hours For Seniors Indefinitely Due to COVID Peak

Costco will be extending its shopping hours “until further notice” due to the recent increase in COVID-19 cases, according to an update on the retailer’s website.

Customers eligible for special hours of operation include those aged 60 or older, as well as those with disabilities or immunosuppressed. Guests will not be admitted.

The company previously planned to cut working hours for seniors and other vulnerable shoppers in July, but reversed course after cases spiked last summer.

Currently, Costco’s designated shopping time is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m.., From Monday to Friday. However, there are a few exceptions in various places, including:

Priority access will also be temporarily granted to Costco members who are healthcare workers and first responders such as police, paramedics and firefighters, with the exception of Massachusetts locations during senior shopping hours. Healthcare workers (which includes pharmacists and all hospital employees with a hospital ID card) and first responders who present a Costco membership card and official role identification, will be allowed to move in front of any line to enter the warehouse.

In addition, all locations in Puerto Rico will close at 7:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, December 7, 2020 through January 7, 2021.
