Costco Wholesale will continue to hold special hours of operation for members 60 and over and vulnerable shoppers as the coronavirus pandemic continues.
Weeks after announcing it would end senior working hours on July 26, the retailer changed course and instead reduced them from five days a week to twice-weekly events.
“Instead of stopping, we will maintain schedules for seniors on Tuesdays and Thursdays, until further notice,” Richard Galanti, Chief Financial Officer of Costco, told USA TODAY. Monday.

The update comes as the number of new coronavirus infections rises in all 50 states and nationwide hospitalizations rise at an alarming rate, according to data from Johns Hopkins University released on Sunday.

Like most large grocery stores nationwide, Costco began designating special shopping hours in March 2020 to help those the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention deemed most vulnerable and at risk for COVID-19.
Costco started its senior hours as a twice-weekly event and quickly expanded to three times a week. When clubs resumed normal hours in early May 2020, clubs extended senior hours to weekday mornings in most locations.
Last summer, Costco initially announced plans to reduce special hours to twice a week in July 2020, but did not cut the hours as cases increased. Instead, Costco said at the time that the hours would continue indefinitely.
Walmart, Target, BJ’s Wholesale Club and Aldi are among the retailers still promoting special hours for seniors on their websites. Hours and criteria vary depending on the location. Trader Joe’s has cut senior working hours in most of its stores.

Costco Senior Hours and exceptions
Costco’s designated time for senior shoppers, members with disabilities, or those with compromised immune systems is 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. Monday through Friday at most clubs. This should change from July 26 to twice a week, which will be Tuesday and Thursday.
