Country singer Tyler Rich’s mid-day New Year’s Eve run in the woods near his Massachusetts home led to the discovery of a dead man, he said in a long Instagram post on Friday. .

“Not like I had planned to close 2020… I guess my last day of the year made sense. My heart is breaking for this poor young man, ”he began. “It will be a picture and a moment in my life, I will never forget.”

Rich recounted the gruesome details, saying he was on a four mile run through Chicopee State Park when he saw what he thought was a sleeping homeless youth.

“He was on his stomach and had a bag tied around his foot and was face down on the ground,” he wrote. Although Rich continued with his run, he later returned to check it out because he “looked like he was in a bad place.”

“I realize he’s not breathing, and as I approach him, all I see is a lifeless face covered in blood. All over. Maybe it looked like a bullet or a blunt force, ”he continued. “Right now I’m panicking and sprinting up the hill trying to find someone with a phone to call the police (I only had my Apple Watch at the time).”

Rich said he found a couple with a phone, he made that call and shortly thereafter made statements to state soldiers, FBI, local police and detectives for a few hours. . While searching the body, Chicopee officers found a gun in the man’s hand, which was under his body. “Which means it could have been suicide … not that there was any type of thing that could help me find him like that,” Rich said. “But, of course, knowing that he wasn’t there, abandoned by someone else, and that he was where he wanted to be, will at least make me a little more comfortable.”

An investigation is currently underway, but James Leydon of the Hampton District Attorney’s Office told Western Mass News that the incident “does not appear to be criminal in nature.”

“I’m doing what I can to process that, the image, the reality,” Rich said. “It’s been difficult 24 hours. Something I’ll never forget. Or forget the few minutes it was just him and I by the water’s edge as I found out what was going on and what I was going to do. Silent and dead environment of a state park. Just running water, and he and I… he looked like a normal young child. Someone with a family is probably wondering where he was.
