Syracuse, New York – The number of new Covid-19 cases in Onondaga County remained below 400 for the sixth day in a row, Onondaga County Director Ryan McMahon said on Saturday.

The county’s Covid-19 workload decrease follows a four-day period from Jan.7 to Jan.10 in which the county recorded more than 450 cases each day.

Onondaga County’s seven-day positivity rate also fell to 5.5%, according to McMahon. That figure was 8.6% two weeks ago.

Despite the increasingly better figures, five people have died from Covid-19 since Friday. Those who died were 87, 79, 59, 96 and 87 years old.

The number of people currently hospitalized for Covid-19 has dropped from 22 people to 175. Saturday is the first time since December 2 that only 175 have been hospitalized with the new coronavirus.

Thirty-nine of those hospitalized are currently in the intensive care unit and seven people are awaiting transfer to the Covid-19 transition unit.
