Two new cases of mutated COVID-19 involving the “strain that flew in the UK and flew to New York” have been reported on Long Island.
The two cases were reported in Suffolk County, along with two more linked to the initial outbreak of the variant strain in upstate New York, bringing the total to more than 20 of those cases.
New York Governor Andrew Cuomo noted Wednesday, Jan.20, that it has been a full year since the first case of COVID-19 was confirmed in Washington.

Cuomo also warned that there are likely other mutated strains from Brazil and South Africa already in New York City, although no cases have been confirmed.
The governor noted that the Wadsworth Center has tested new strains, although none have been identified positively.
“It’s only a matter of time until there’s a much deadlier strain, and unfortunately I believe you have to anticipate a vaccine resistant strain,” Cuomo said. “It’s almost a matter of probability.
“There could be a strain that requires a new vaccine, that’s a possibility,” he added. “We have worked so hard on vaccines that we may be able to find a new vaccine quickly, but then we will have to administer it.
Cuomo reiterated his call that all international travelers entering the country, especially New York, should have to receive and pass a COVID-19 test before being allowed to board or disembark a plane.
“We are playing Russian roulette with this virus… We know that it is mutating all over the world, so why do we still allow internationals to fly into our airport without passing tests,” he said. interrogates. “It’s a year later… Why not take a lesson from a year ago, that’s how New York found itself in this situation.
