NEW YORK CITY (WABC) – New York’s goal is to fully immunize 5 million New Yorkers by June.

That’s what Mayor Bill de Blasio said on Saturday afternoon during a celebration of a new vaccination site in the Bronx.

“Bronx will help lead the way, pave the way for New York’s takeover,” he said.

When the Co-Op City site reaches its full potential, de Blasio says 1,000 people will be vaccinated every day in the community.

“What a difference that will be,” he said.

According to the mayor, Co-Op City is one of the first places to get vaccinations for seniors at home.

“Now that we have the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, we can reach our homebound seniors,” he said.

50 seniors confined to the house have already been vaccinated in Co-Op City.

The number of New Yorkers vaccinated now exceeds 3 million.

Early Saturday morning, the Javits Center had started accepting round-the-clock appointments in a bid to get more New Yorkers vaccinated.

The state-run vaccination center switched to 24-hour mode.

Made possible by the Johnson & Johnson vaccine approved last Saturday, doses began arriving in New York City during the week.

The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is a unique vaccine, which makes it easier for people to get vaccinated quickly.

Many were lucky enough to make an appointment on Saturday morning.

Additionally, the mayor received some promising news as he prepared to make an announcement about high schools – and when they could resume in-person learning – next week.

The news comes as positivity rates in the region continue to slowly decline.

Colleges returned last week.

The mayor says the goal is to bring all students back for in-person learning, day-long training, five days a week for the start of the next school year in September.
