The Dallas Cowboys on Thursday acquired defensive end Robert Quinn of the Miami Dolphins for a sixth-round pick in 2020.

Quinn, who visited The Star last week and also met the New Orleans Saints, gets a new $ 8 million Cowboys one-year deal and can win $ 1 million from more in incentives, according to sources.

Quinn was to earn $ 11.8 million in the last year of his contract. Earlier this month, the Dolphins paid Quinn an alignment bonus of $ 1.12 million and would be willing to pay a portion of his base salary to facilitate trade. The Dolphins recently paid $ 5 million out of the $ 7 million guaranteed to quarterback Ryan Tannehill in a deal with the Tennessee Titans.

The dolphins, however, pay nothing of money in Quinn 's new deal with the Cowboys, the sources said.

The Cowboys need to improve their hustle.

Cowboys Executive Vice President Stephen Jones said discussions with DeMarcus Lawrence on a long-term deal had resulted in a "stalemate", but the club is hopeful that a deal can be concluded by July 15th. . deadline. Lawrence, who had collected 10.5 sacks last season, has been awarded the franchise label for the second year in a row, guaranteeing him at least $ 20.5 million in 2019.

Randy Gregory, whose six sacks in 2018 were second in Lawrence's team, was indefinitely suspended for further breaking the NFL's drug policy and conditional reinstatement conditions. Although the Cowboys hope that Gregory will be able to return in 2019, nothing guarantees it.

Taco Charlton, Dallas' first-round pick in 2017, has just undergone a shoulder operation and had only one sack last season. Tyrone Crawford collected 5.5 sacks last season, but the NFL recently investigated an incident at a Florida bar that could result in a penalty through personal behavior policy.

Quinn, who turns 29 in May, had 6.5 sacks last season after being traded by the Los Angeles Rams to the Dolphins. For his career, he has 69 bags, including 19 in 2013, a career high. In 2015, he signed a $ 57 million four-year contract with the Rams after two consecutive Pro Bowl seasons in which he recorded 29.5 sacks.

The Cowboys do not have a first round pick in the repechage because of last season's receiver change Amari Cooper of Oakland Raiders. The Dolphins are in rebuilding mode with new coach Brian Flores and general manager Chris Grier.

The agreement also follows the Cowboys' free-agency approach, making short-term and profitable signatures with artists like Randall Cobb, George Iloka, Christian Covington and Kerry Hyder, which will allow them to bring the best players available in the project. Tours 2-7.

The dolphins will have to rebuild their line of defense, and their greatest need is undoubtedly the defeat of the edges. Miami lost veteran defenseman Cameron Wake in attack on the Titans. Disappointing first-round pick 2017, Charles Harris is currently the best forward of the Dolphins.

Cameron Wolfe of ESPN contributed to this report.
