FRISCO – Markus Paul, the Dallas Cowboys’ strength and conditioning coach since 2018, died Wednesday night. He was 54 years old.
Earlier today, her niece, Antoinette, asked for prayers in a social media post:
“My Uncle Markus is surrounded by a lot of love! His wife was by his side and his children were flown in last night. His father, siblings and nieces are also flying to Dallas this morning. Keep praying. and believe everyone, he’s in good hands! ”
On Wednesday night, the Cowboys released a statement announcing Paul’s passing, along with a comment from team owner Jerry Jones and head coach Mike McCarthy.
“The loss of a family member is a tragedy, and Markus Paul was a loved and valued member of our family,” Jones said. “He has been a pleasant and calming influence in our weight room and throughout The Star. His passion for his job and his enthusiasm for life have earned him the great respect and admiration of all of our players and all of us. the organization We offer our love and support to his family during this very difficult time Our hearts are broken for his family and all those whose lives he touched and improved.
McCarthy’s addition: “We extend our love, strength and support to Markus’ family during this most difficult time and ask that his privacy be respected in the future. Markus Paul was a leader in this building. He earned the respect and attention of the players because he cared so much and was a naturally gifted communicator, both personally and professionally. He handled every situation, sometimes with a smile and a pat on the back, and sometimes with tough love. He had an innate tenacity in a job that demanded this quality, and he was admired throughout the NFL by his peers and the players he coached. It was a privilege to work with him as a coach and to laugh with him as a friend. Markus did everything the right way.
Dallas is on a short week of training with an NFC East Division showdown against the Washington soccer team on Thanksgiving Day.
They will now attempt to move on while dealing with the emotion of the death of a football family member in Paul, who died in Plano Presbyterian Hospital, the cause of death has not been announced.
Paul has had a long history as an NFL staff member, largely under the mentorship of former Cowboys strength and conditioning coach Mike Woicik, whom he first worked with in Syracuse, where Paul , originally from Orlando, Florida, played college football. Over the course of Paul’s career, he worked alongside Woicik at various stops, most notably as a multiple-time Super Bowl winner while on the staff of Coach Bill Belichick with the New York Patriots. -England, then with the New York Giants.

Paul, who was a Chicago Bears fourth-round pick in the 1989 NFL Draft, had a four-year career as a part-time safety starter for the Bears and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He then coached with four NFL clubs before coming to Dallas.
