Dallas Cowboys kicker Greg Zuerlein was a little tough on himself following the team’s 31-29 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Thursday night.

Zuerlein missed two baskets and an extra point attempt which may have given the Cowboys the advantage. He still managed to score the field goal that gave the Cowboys the lead at the end of the fourth quarter, but the offense gave Tom Brady too much time to lead the winning race.

The All-Pro kicker seemed to be on his own when addressing reporters after the game.

“If I do my job, we win this game,” he said, via the team’s website. “So I feel bad for the guys over there who played their part and I didn’t keep my end of the bargain.”

Zuerlein has been known throughout his career as a reliable kicker, whether with the Los Angeles Rams or the Cowboys. Last season he was 34-for-41 on field goals and 33-for-36 on extra point attempts.

He was called upon to hit a 31-yard field goal that he missed, then missed a 60-yard long attempt. He hadn’t managed a field goal of more than 59 yards since 2015.

“No excuses. If I’m there, I should kick it. There are no excuses,” he said.

Dallas coach Mike McCarthy has always backed Zuerlein.

“I have great faith and confidence in him, and we need him. He did the clutch, the clutch kick over there at the end to give us the advantage before the two-minute drive from. Tampa, ”he said.
