In response to our report, the Cowboys' running back, Ezekiel Elliott, said in private that he had no plans to show up at the training camp. absence of a new contract. Charles Robinson, of Yahoo Sports, put meat on the bones.
In a series of tweetsRobinson said Elliot did not make a firm decision to hold out, but "thought hard about the issue and absolutely wanted an extension of the work."
Robinson also thinks that if the Cowboys are not "proactive" about an agreement, "it could go fast".
"That's not the case yet," says Robinson. "It will be an important week."
Although the idea that Elliott did not take a "firm decision" to hold out is not totally consistent with our report, it confirms that something is happening, while it was believed that Elliott would not take a stand. . And it is possible Elliott privately tells people that he intends to keep the Cowboys taking the situation seriously.
The Cowboys have seen little urgency to extend Elliott's deal, in part because he is under contract for two more years. This has led some speculations not to want to extend it this year or maybe next year.
"We certainly have a few years with Zeke to do that," Cowboys Operations Director Stephen Jones told PFT in May. "We definitely want to finish it. It's the straw, if you like, that shakes our drink. It is a key element of our subject. These things take time to be done. They do not happen overnight. Admittedly, the priority is to have it signed. There has not really been a timetable for that. "
Elliott seems to set a timetable, if not to reach an agreement to move in that direction. And the threat that the drink will have to wake up seems to be real.
