Crazy looking Hyperion XP-1 fuel cell hypercar seen from driving on public road

Last summer, a Southern California company called Hyperion debuted a wild hydrogen hypercar called XP-1. The company called the XP-1 concept an “educational tool,” but there’s more to it than that, it seems, as it took the XP-1 for a ride on the streets of Las Vegas, according to one. report published Friday in Motor1.

Now, in case you forgot, the Hyperion XP-1 is a hydrogen fuel cell powered car that claims a range of 1,000 miles per tank of hydrogen, 1,500 horsepower, 0-60 time approximately 2.2 seconds and a top speed of 221. mph. Interestingly enough, Hyperion claims that there are no batteries on board to store energy (as seen in the Toyota Mirai and Hyundai Nexo, for example), which cuts down on weight.

Despite the absence of a physical THESE this year, Hyperion decided to go to Vegas anyway, and he drove the XP-1 up and down the Strip, as well as into the wilderness. We don’t have a lot of details on the exact speed or what the company was doing in the desert, but it’s interesting to see the car covered in camouflage, given that it’s been seen without it before.

Hyperion plans to offer the XP-1 for sale to the public from 2022, but most of the production of 300 vehicles is slated for 2023.

Hyperion did not immediately respond to Roadshow’s request for comment.
