Land Rover's efforts to recreate an off-road icon would always be perilous, simply because the original Defender, and the Land Rover series that preceded it, mean many different things to so many people. JLR's team of designers and engineers had to please everyone.

When you look at the online configurator, it seems they decided to do it by offering the new Defender a wide range of optional specs, accessories and extras. The ability to create your custom Defender is immense even by the standards of the modern automotive industry.
There are important choices to make. Do you configure a rugged and flexible Defender designed for boots, bales of hay and stray cattle? Or do you cast the list of options to a creation without money, better suited to the city's hippest neighborhoods than to an unexplored marsh? Steve Fowler's defender

Editor-in-chief Steve Fowler opted for an aggressive look with his Defender. The Urban Pack includes the metal guard and spare wheel cover, as well as the checkerboard body protection kit and 22-inch wheels. Our editor has tried to keep things relatively simple with his Defender 110 D200. It was inspired by the Defender County 110 of the late 80s. He also chose the Country Pack with its mud flaps, wheel arch protection and black roof bars for a classic look.

The chosen word does not appear in the extended vocabulary of the main writer James Brodie. He actually managed to break the configurator of Land Rover Defender with a clutter of excess. "I have spent centuries trying to make it as expensive as possible and now it will not give me a price," he complains.
James said he wanted a short-wheelbase 90 model, which would have been his only decision to save money throughout the construction, but they are not yet in the configurator. By not quoting the price of Brodie's Defender, Land Rover's configurator algorithm obviously felt he could not afford it. Very reasonable.
Luke Wilkinson's Defender
