BALTIMORE (WJZ) – Longtime sports announcer Cris Collinsworth said he was “sick” of his on-air comments during the Ravens-Steelers game on Wednesday, when he said he was “blown away” by the Steelers fans who understood football so well.
In the second quarter of the game, Collinsworth commented on the female NFL fans he had met before the game began. “Everyone is a fan. In particular, the ladies that I have met. They have really specific questions about the game, ”he said of women. “And I’m like, ‘Wow’ you’re just blown away by the strength of the fans here in this city.”

“Today on our show I referred to a few women I met in Pittsburgh who impressed me so much with their knowledge of football that I wanted to tell their story on the air. I know the way I worded it offended a lot. I’m really sorry, ”he said.

“What I wanted as a compliment to the Pittsburgh fans has turned into an insult. I’m tired of insulting any fan, but especially female fans and journalists. I know firsthand how harder they have to work than anyone else in this industry. I was wrong and I deeply apologize, ”Collinsworth added.
The Steelers beat the Ravens, whose roster was exhausted by COVID-19 last week, 19-14 Wednesday.
