Today, Moderna has joined list of companies seeing positive results from COVID-19 vaccine trials, which means that we could one day truly end this pandemic with the sheer brute force of pharmaceutical companies – and without any help from the federal government! This means the American film industry desperately needs to hang on a little longer. and hopes the vaccine will be widely distributed extremely quickly and let’s hope everyone decides to celebrate their vaccine with a trip to the movies (and a really big soda, maybe with a Principle or Black Widow ad on the mug), then everything will work fine. Everything will be alright!

But things are not going particularly well at the moment. Last weekend played out in much the same way as most weekends spent at the US box office, with one movie coming out and earning relatively well while all other movies have fallen. The new movie this time was The Croods: A New Age, which made $ 9.7 million. He beat the last new movie to come out, the three week old boy Weird, which fell to second with $ 770,000. Then, we have War with grandfather, who’s been on the charts for eight weeks now and only has $ 17 million to show for it (he made $ 643,000 this weekend).

The rest of the top 10 are half of the old movies re-released by movie studios that need a little extra cash to pay the bills, and half of the new movies that will be remembered primarily for being ‘they came out during the pandemic. In fourth place we have western adult Let him go ($ 459,000), followed by the horror film by Gillian Jacobs Come play ($ 389,000), then Liam Neeson’s Honest thief ($ 350,000). Principle came eighth with $ 300,000, with Elf, Santa, and National Lampoon Christmas Vacation again with equally small totals.
