Speaking at the conference on conservative political action Friday, Cruz told a delighted crowd that Democrats were opposing one of the government's signature immigration platforms. Republicans simply to undermine the White House.

"I think there is a technical description of what's happening, it's that the Democrats have gone crazy with bats," he said.

"Now their position is not to secure the border at all, to let everyone inside and to have an amnesty," he added. "Here is their reasoning. Trump wants a wall, we hate him, so no wall, that's all.

The Wall of Borders, a central promise of the Trump Campaign in 2016, was at the center of a partial government closure of 35 days earlier this year.

Trump later declared a national emergency as a way around Congress to find money for the wall after a new vote of money approved by the legislature did not respond to his demands.

Cruz said that opposition to conservative border security measures is indicative of the kind of resistance that Republicans can expect in 2020.

"They are becoming more and more extreme on all subjects," he said.

"We're going to see a crazy assault from the left, more upset than anything we've seen."
