Senator Ted Cruz will attend the inauguration of President-elect Biden next week.
A source confirmed to Fox News that the Texas Republican, who led the charge in challenging the Electoral College’s results during the joint session of Congress last week, will attend the swearing-in ceremony outside the Capitol on Wednesday. NBC Austin affiliate KXAN first reported the news.
The other Lone Star State senator, Republican John Cornyn, confirmed on Twitter that he will also be in attendance. Cornyn did not challenge the Electoral College’s results in the presidential election certification session.
Cruz’s office could not be reached immediately for comment.
Current members of Congress are being offered tickets just for themselves and one guest this year, unlike previous openings.
President Trump said last week that he would not attend the inauguration when Vice President Mike Pence is expected to.
Cruz, a Harvard law graduate, has offered to plead a now failed lawsuit by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton suing the battlefield states of Pennsylvania, Georgia, Michigan and Wisconsin to challenge their results of the presidential election of 2020.
CRUZ DEFENDS THE ROLE IN OBJECTIONS TO THE ELECTORAL VOTE
He led a group of 11 senators demanding a 10-day deadline to verify election results and an emergency investigation, although no evidence of widespread fraud emerged in the two months following the election.
Cruz ultimately withdrew his objections for Georgia, Michigan, and Nevada, but co-signed the opposition in Pennsylvania once the Senate met again following the Capitol Riot.
The House has since impeached Trump for his rhetoric on the fateful day that left five dead, but calls have also been made for Cruz to resign. Cruz brushed off the idea.

“What I was doing was debating on the Senate electoral integrity floor,” Cruz said in an interview with KXAS-TV, an NBC affiliate in Fort Worth, Texas. “It has nothing to do with this criminal terrorist attack, which was bad and must be continued. It is exactly the opposite. What I was doing is how you are supposed to solve the problems in this country.”
Like other lawmakers, Cruz said he believes Trump’s rhetoric contributed to the siege on Capitol Hill.

“I think the president’s rhetoric and his language were exaggerated. I think it was irresponsible. I think it was reckless. And I think he has to admit it,” he said.
