10 ladies in white arrested in Cuba during repressive Sunday number 152

Like most weekends in Cuba, this Sunday 10 women belonging to the Ladies in White opposition group were arrested so that they did not participate in their usual marches in favor of the release of political prisoners.

According to Radio Martí the opposition María Josefa Acón Sardiñas, out of the 10 women imprisoned, four come from Havana and six from Matanzas.

"Leaving the national headquarters, Berta Soler Fernandez, Micaela Roll, Gladis Capote and Odrelis (…) were arrested in the Lawton district," he said.

The Ladies in White have repeatedly denounced that since March 2016 – the date when former US President Barack Obana went to Havana -, the Cuban State Security the threatened not to let them walk on 5th Avenue. 19659002] Since then, there are already 152 Sundays when they can not express themselves publicly and attend Mbad in the Church of Santa Rita, in the municipality of Havana.

Sardiñas explained to Martí Noticias that the political expression Ángel Moya and other opponents were arrested when they accompanied the women to support them.

According to Sardiñas, "in the act of repudiation they shouted pro-regime slogans and other offensives against the Ladies in White."

Women arrested last Sunday, Gladis Capote and Micaela Roll were released in places away from six o'clock in the afternoon, according to Sardiñas statements.

The six women arrested in Matanzas have already been released.

For its part, the leader of the movement, Berta Soler, is still detained.

In a recent statement of the Cuban Observatory of Human Rights it was pointed out that in those first 100 days of the current President Miguel Díaz-Canel more than 20 people belonging to the UMPACU and Ladies in White were banned from leaving the country.
