TAMPERE, Finland – Cuban Maikel Vidal won the silver medal in long jump by stretching up to 7.99 meters at the World Junior Championship.
Vidal was unable to get his entire clbad on a test dominated by Japan's Yuki Hashioka (8.03) and Jamaican Wayne Pinnock (7.90) clinched the bronze medal.
Cuban arrived in the northern city with the favorite tag when ranking the best record of the season (8.12) made on June 8 in Havana.
Vidal started the competition in third place, with 7, 87, behind Hashioka and Pinnock, and in the second attempt, he placed himself in front of the competition, guaranteed by a 7.94.
