A Republican Senator presented to the US Congress a bill that would would impose sanctions on organizations involved in the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, which would unify Russia and Germany without intermediaries.
According to the document presented by the chairman of the Senate Committee on the Environment and Public Works, John Barrbado, the measure aims to "improve energy security" of NATO members. To this end, it should impose sanctions on all entities that "invest in one way or another in the project, sell, rent or provide goods, services, technologies, information or support Russia in the construction of its pipelines ".
The measure would affect the major European energy companies with interests in the development of the project. Among them, Engie (France), Uniper (Germany), Wintershall (Germany), OMV (Austria) and Royal Dutch Shell (Netherlands), which among the five financed 50% of the project.
