Elisbeth Gámez, considered one of the main figures of swimming in Cuba, today won the silver medal in the final of the 200 meters free corresponding to the XXIII Games of Central America and Caribbean, based in this Colombian city.
Gámez, from the eastern province of Guantánamo, clocked a best time of 1: 58.55, escorting Joanna Evans of the Bahamas to a record of 1: 58. 03 for the Games.
Liliana Ibáñez López of Mexico completed the podium with a time of 2: 01.36, in a test that also allowed Cuban Lorena González to win the B final.
With this result, the swimming team representing the largest of the West Indies added its second medal, after Luis E. Vega earned a precious bronze in the butterfly of 200 meters, during the first day of the final .
In the previous version of the Games, held in Veracruz, in 2014, Cuba won a gold medal and three bronze, discipline dominated by Venezuela (16-6-10).
