The Inter-American Commission on Human Rights (IACHR) calls on states, July 25, International Day of Afro-Latin American, Afro-descendants and Diaspora, to encourage and strengthen their political participation , promoting safe spaces impact and fight against any kind of discrimination.

"In the Americas, women of African descent have suffered from a triple historical discrimination based on their gender, ethnic and racial background," said IACHR Chair Margarette May Macaulay, rapporteur on women's rights and on the rights of people of African descent and against racial discrimination

The IACHR is concerned about the violence, aggression or harbadment of Afro women in public office and political office. He therefore calls on all States to take the necessary measures to encourage the political participation of women of African, Afro-Caribbean and diaspora descent through special measures. and positive actions that promote gender balance and ethnicity and race in decision spaces. It also urges them to take appropriate measures to encourage political parties to ensure that people of African descent have fair and equitable opportunities to compete and be elected to all public positions.
The Commission also recalls due diligence in the investigation and suppression of acts of violence, aggression or harbadment against elected women of African origin or candidates for public office, including including the serious investigation without delay of complaints of verbal, psychological or physical violence and the fight against impunity
Finally, the IACHR called on all the States of the region to adopt without delay the measures necessary to to ratify and implement the Inter-American Convention against Racism, Racial Discrimination and Related Intolerance, and the Convention The Inter-American Convention against All Forms of Discrimination and Intolerance, as an example of its commitment to combat discrimination and all forms of intolerance in the Hemisphere.
