Colombia exceeds 30.4 million broadband internet connections

The Quarterly ICT Bulletin indicates that eight out of ten Internet connections are mobile.

In the first quarter of 2018, the number of broadband Internet connections in the country reached 30.4 million, which represents an increase of 7% compared to the same period of the previous year. Of these, 16.5 million correspond to the subscription modality and 13.9 million to demand.

This is demonstrated in the Quarterly ICT Bulletin for the period between January and March of this year, in which it is revealed that eight out of 10 Internet connections are mobile, with a total of 23.9 million in the first quarter of 2018.

With regard to fixed connections, the document points out that strata 4, 1 and 2 had the largest increases during this period, with respective variations of 10.6%, 8 , 6% and 7.4%.

"We have surpbaded this government's goal of broadband internet connections, and through various initiatives, such as the distribution of subsidies to more than two million households, we have managed to grow from 730,000 fixed internet connections in strata 1 and 2 in 2010 to 2.9 million this year, "said the Minister of Technology. For its part, the bulletin indicated that the territories with the highest fixed Internet penetration rate are Bogotá, Antioquia and Risaralda and that 91% of 39 between them the connections are residential.
