Donostia– The Public Health and Addiction Department of the Basque Government's Health Department yesterday confirmed a case of measles in a 27-year-old woman in Gipuzkoa, to which they added seven cases this year in Euskadi. This case could be linked to a 41-year-old man residing outside Euskadi who went to a health center in Gipuzkoa on 9 April where he was diagnosed with the disease.

The Basque Health Department indicated that, in accordance with the protocol of action, it had initiated "the appropriate actions to avoid new infections, by applying isolation measures and initiating the study of contacts ".

According to epidemiological data collected, this new case "could be linked to that of a 41-year-old man residing outside Euskadi, who went to a health center in Gipuzkoa on 9 April. , where he was diagnosed with measles ". The man had already been infected before traveling to Gipuzkoa.

In addition, the same sources recalled that so far this year, seven cases of measles in Euskadi have already been confirmed, including four in Bizkaia, two in Araba and one in Gipuzkoa.

The Basque Health Department said that "all people who have not pbaded the disease or who are not sufficiently immunized are likely to contract it if they are not sufficiently vaccinated". In Euskadi, in particular, the measles vaccine is included in the immunization schedule for children and the coverage of the first dose of trypriotvirus (measles-mumps-rubella) is 96.05% and 94.7% in the dose.
